Description
Here is a set of four fun mystery activities for solving Quadratic Equations that your students will love! This set covers all four methods commonly used to solve quadratics: factoring when a≠1, completing the square, using the quadratic formula and graphing.
The activities are all centered around the mystery of Who Killed Mr. Factor, with each segment leading to a new lead in the case.
NOTE: This is the same mystery as this earlier value set where in the factoring activity a=1.
In the first activity, Who Killed Mr. Factor, students combine the skills of solving quadratic equations by factoring (a≠1) with a mystery.
Once the suspect is identified, students are lead to a locked briefcase, and they solve a series of quadratic equations by completing the square to figure out the combination using a logic puzzle. This fun activity is called The Case of Ms. Mann’s Briefcase
The Message in the Briefcase is coded, but students will decode it using the Quadratic Formula.
This message leads your junior sleuths to the city Where Ms. Mann is Hiding.
Each of these activities can be used independently and are listed as separate items. Please visit the links listed above for more information and previews!
